Our small family run
farm is located in South Canaan Township just south of Waymart Pennsylvania in
the Pocono Mountain region of Northeast Pennsylvania. We are approximately two
hours from New York City and 25 minutes from downtown Scranton Pennsylvania. The
area has long been a year round vacation spot for those who enjoy the outdoors.
Recreation includes boating, skiing, rafting, canoeing, hiking and camping in
the summer as well as snow skiing in the winter. The Poconos are an ideal
location for breeding alpacas.

We moved to this area in April 2001 from Carson City, Nevada. Hal was a commercial airline pilot at that time based in New York, the trips up and back were not exactly a high point for the family. So it was decided that a move was in order, since Hal's family was from New York and Barbara's family had immigrated to Pennsylvania in the early 1700's it just seemed right for the "nomads" to return to their roots.

Our family has always considered themselves stewards of our environment and we quickly filled our farm with pets. A trip to an alpaca farm was all that was needed to help us fall in love with alpacas and convince us that this was the life for us. In 2005 we started Red Maple Farm in order to breed high quality huacaya alpacas with a goal of producing great fibered alpacas in natural colors, particularly beige, fawns and brown. Our mission is to provide quality fleece, rovings and yarn for the craftsmen and to make available quality breeding stock for those who wish to purchase alpacas.
